Hi folks,

I guess it is high time to put some addl. information on the web.
To this end, I have compiled a little writeup as enclosed. Please
read & comment.

Issues:

- I will come in from Vienna on the morning of the workshop
day (conflicting EU project kickoff meeting, should be there
all week, so I have to be there at lease Monday and Monday
night) arriving 7.45 in Frankfurt, I should be in time for
the start at 9.30 (this seems to be the general starting time,
cf. ubicomp workshop web site)

- We still have no confirmation from Paul re. venue and re.
our holding the workshop on Tuesday. Of course, we cannot

change the day any more and we have the OK from Albrecht

Schmidt, but I suggest that in the process of getting our
text online, we should ask for the venue.

- I'm including a time table. I guess that the coffee and

lunch breaks are pretty fixed (see workshop web page:

all workshops have the same agenda), so I tried to
comply with that -->

o after the "elevater pitches", there's only room for a
short 15 min. of general-advice, but I think that this
is ideal: we can re-emphasize what the presentations
should focus on, and make the feedback process transparent

o I suggested 3 block à 3 papers in the three 1.30h blocks
that are planned in the general workshop timetable.
This means that we could, for instance, have 3x20 min.
presentations and 30min. combined feedback. Any
comments?

o I reserved one hour at the end; my idea is to have
each panelist present the essence of their general
advice to PhD students; we might organized
different categories (time management, related work
assessment, scientific methods, ensuring scientific
originality, evaluation, paper-writing, thesis-writing --
probably we should synchronize some of this with

our "evaluation sheet"

btw., we might consider doing the evaluations
online via google doc - we recently made very
good experience with that.

o At former conferences, the DC organizers were also
on the panel. I think we should copy that.
We now have to decide and to clarify with Paul & others

- if we need a Web site of our own and

- if so, if we should provide a short description of the workshop
just like the ones on the Ubicomp Website

I'd appreciate your help and comments. IN particular, if there is
any problem with my schedule (arrival "just in time" on Tuesday)
pls. let me know.

Brgds, Max
